Approach
Word Smith Speech and Language Therapy, evaluates, assesses, observes, and treats a variety of speech and language disorders!
Speech and Language therapy focuses on Evidence-Based, Client led, Sensory, and Play based speech and language therapy to achieve the family, caregiver, and client's communication goals.
Word Smith Speech and Language Therapy is providing comfortable and convenient speech and language therapy from the client's home with online or in person Therapy.
In Person services are provided in South Western, PA! More specifically located in Westmoreland County, including these areas (and not limited to): Export, Murrysville, Delmont, Level Green, Monroeville, Plum, Penn Township, Greensburg, Irwin, and more!
Online Services can be provided in all of PA!
Evaluations and treatments include all aspects of speech and language therapy including: articulation, receptive language (understanding of language), expressive language (output of language), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Pragmatics (social skills), Cognition, feeding/swallowing, and hearing.
Mission
The Mission at Word Smith Speech and Language Therapy is to comfortably, conveniently, and effectively evaluate and treat all communication challenges and disorders.
The main goal is to increase children's communication skills, in all areas, because everyone's words matter!
Expertise
Diane Smith proudly graduated from Ohio University with honors with her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, a Linguistics minor, and a Gerontology Certificate. She then pridefully attended West Virginia University, where she graduated with her Speech and Language Pathology Masters' degree.
She is a Certified Speech and Language Pathologist with the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and a certified Speech and Language Pathologist in the state of Pennsylvania.
She has worked in a variety of settings including Private Practices and a tele therapist with a school district. She has worked with a variety of ages including birth to 21, preschool, elementary, middle, and high school ages. She has seen a very diverse caseload including many diagnoses and disorders.
Diane loves to learn! She constantly engages in continuing education to ensure that she is staying up to date in all of her assessments and treatments.
Certified to diagnose and treat Childhood Apraxia of Speech Using Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) offered by the Once Upon a Time Foundation.
A Member of the SLP Directory with Apraxia Kids, an organization which includes an SLP Directory which is a listing of SLPs who have shown knowledge and training about assessment and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Certified to assess and treat a variety of diagnosis with Augmentative and Alternative Communication with LAMP Words for Life technology provided by PRC-Saltillo and The Center of AAC and Autism
